At Kidan, your privacy and cultural respect are foundational to our mission. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, protect, and use your personal information across our Android application and Web Platform.

1. Information We Collect

• Account: your phone number, confirmed by SMS when you sign in, and an optional email address for signing in by email.
• Profile: name, age, gender, who you are looking for, city and country, hometown (ዓዲ), faith, languages, job, bio and prompt answers, and your photos.
• Conversations: messages, photos and voice notes you send to your matches.
• Activity: likes, passes, matches, blocks and reports.
• Device: a notification token so we can alert you to new messages, your online status and when you were last active, and app settings such as language.
• Payments: if you subscribe, payment is handled by Stripe (on the website) or Google Play (in the app). We receive your subscription status and billing history; we never see your full card number.

Faith is optional. If you add it to your profile, you choose to make it visible to other members, and you can remove it at any time.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To show your profile to other members and build your discovery deck.
• To deliver messages, matches and notifications.
• To sign you in and help you recover your account.
• To keep the community safe: when you report someone, we keep a copy of that conversation so the Kidan team can review it, and we remove accounts that break our Terms.
• To run your free period and any subscription, and to send service emails such as sign-in codes.

Under UK and EU data protection law we rely on: providing the service you signed up for (contract); keeping members safe and preventing abuse (legitimate interests); your consent for notifications and for optional profile details; and legal obligations such as keeping tax records.

3. Who Can See What

• Other signed-in members can see your profile and profile photos.
• Only you can see your phone number, email address and notification tokens.
• Only you and your match can see your conversation, including photos and voice notes sent in it.
• Members you block can no longer like or message you, and are hidden from you.

4. Service Providers

We use a small number of providers to run Kidan, each only for the purpose listed: Google Firebase / Google Cloud (database, sign-in, file storage, website hosting and notifications), Stripe (website payments), Resend (sending sign-in and service emails) and Google Play (Android app distribution and in-app purchases). Some of them process data outside the UK, under standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

5. Security

Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and is encrypted at rest by Google Cloud. Access rules ensure each member can reach only their own private data and their own conversations. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted, which is what allows reported conversations to be reviewed.

6. Data Retention & Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Delete Account) or by emailing kidanapp.help@gmail.com. This removes your profile, photos, contact details, likes, matches and messages, and cancels a website subscription. We keep only what we must: reports filed about an account (so bans cannot be evaded), and payment records for as long as tax law requires. Deleted data can remain in encrypted backups for a short time before they expire. Full details are on our account deletion page.

7. Your Rights

You can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent, by emailing us. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or your local data protection authority.

8. Age

Kidan is for adults only. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and we remove accounts belonging to anyone under 18.

9. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell members in the app.
